Abstract

One of the key issues in modern cosmology is the late cosmic acceleration: recent observations, based on standard candle supernovae, show that the expansion of the universe is accelerating. GR, with standard model fields and dark matter as the only sources for the stress-energy tensor, do not predict this acceleration. One of the solutions to this issue is to replace the linear action of GR with a non-linear function f(R), hence this set of theories is termed “f(R) gravity”. In this talk, the numerical solution of the field equations for a system of a galaxy cluster and a nearby galaxy is presented. Using this test case, we explore some of the rich dynamics of the theory.
