Abstract:I will present experimental studies of optical transitions in single semiconductor quantum dots using
Fabry Perot interferometer permitting spectral resolution which is better than the radiative width
of these transitions (~1 µeV ).

I will discuss the operation principles of the interferometer and considerations in its design and fabrication.
The measured width of various optical transitions will be presented and spectral broadening mechanisms
such as spectral diffusion and power broadening will be discussed.

Finally, I will present nuclear polarization using resonant excitation by circularly polarized light in the
absence of any external magnetic field (Overhauser effect) and discuss its origin and quantitative
characterization.
