Abstract: This talk will present the investigation of different types of plasma cathodes which are used as electron source for generation of high power relativistic electron beam under application of high voltage with pulse duration of several nanoseconds. The high-current electron beam was generated by explosive emission plasma cathode in a magnetically insulated foilless diode. The high-current electron beam transfers its potential energy to microwave radiation during its transport in Backward Wave Oscillator operating in super-radiance mode. Different characteristics of the cathode that govern on the efficiency of the BWO operation were investigated as well as parameters of the generated microwave pulse will be presented.
The motivation of this research is to investigate the interaction of the high-power microwave beam with plasma for formation of wake-field.
