Abstract:Hierarchical triple and wide binaries in the field undergoes multiple stellar encounters during the lifetime of the system. These encounters change the orbital elements of the outer (wide) binary. In a triple systems any change in the outer binary may lead the system into a secular evolution that may dramatically change the inner binary, e.g. tidal effects, collisions or mergers. For the wide binary case stellar collisions or short period binaries are important outcomes in this scenario. The implications for Low mass X-ray Binaries and hierarchical triples are presented and other channels are discussed.
