Happy New Year from the Physics Department
Just before the start of the new year, we gathered to wish one another a happy year, filled with hope and growth, and to express our gratitude. Thank you to our academic, administrative, and technical staff, our students, and everyone who works each day to help our Faculty flourish and succeed. As Moshiko Elazra, Head of the Faculty Administration, said: “We are accustomed to talking about research, teaching, laboratories, budgets, and infrastructure, but ultimately, the Faculty is first and foremost its people.”
We also took this opportunity to extend our holiday greetings to members of the Druze community on the occasion of the Nabi Sabalan holiday.
The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Eric Akkermans, shared an exceptional Faculty achievement. In 1961, a young physicist published her first paper at the Technion. This year, 65 years later, she published another. That physicist is Professor Emerita Bertina Fisher.
“Bertina, I do not know many scientists whose publication record spans 65 years at the same institution, and who possess your characteristic humility. You remind us that curiosity never ends. On behalf of the entire Physics Department, congratulations on the publication. Thank you for your research, and may you continue to enjoy many more years of fruitful scientific work.”
We wish everyone a quieter and safer year, a year of health, success, hope, and happiness.
May we continue to work together, support one another, appreciate those around us, and find fulfilment in our shared and meaningful work.
