Julia Saleh-Natur Won the Outstanding Poster Award at the 2026 Technion Research Day

Congratulations to our Ph.D. student Julia Saleh-Natur on winning the Outstanding Poster Award in the Ph.D. category at the 2026 Technion Jacobs Graduate Research Day!

The poster presents Julia’s Ph.D. research, under the supervision of Prof. Ehud Behar, on the development of GALI (Gamma-ray Burst Localizing Instrument), a novel instrument designed to localize gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). The research describes the instrument's operating principle, which is based on a three-dimensional array of scintillation detectors; the experimental measurement setup; the calibration methodology; and the reconstruction algorithms developed as part of this work. It also presents laboratory results demonstrating the capability to localize gamma-ray sources with an angular accuracy of approximately 1°. These findings highlight GALI's potential for future space missions by combining a wide field of view with precise localization of gamma-ray bursts.

In addition, the research was selected for presentation as part of the "Israeli Science" initiative of the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology and was exhibited at the Israeli Knesset under the theme "Small and Smart" (See picture below), as part of an exhibition showcasing groundbreaking Israeli research before the Knesset Science and Technology Committee starting May 2026.
