The Physics of Accretion onto Galaxies

'How galaxies get the gas needed to fuel star formation?' remains a fundamental open question in the study of galaxy formation and evolution. I will discuss recent theoretical developments in galaxy accretion physics, and how different modes of galaxy accretion impact galaxy properties. I will also present potential tests of accretion models using observations of gas in dark matter halos, known as the 'circumgalactic medium'.
