Abstract:A superconductor is commonly thought of as a material, which expels magnetic field and does not allow for electric field inside. Zero electric field stems from the requirement of having zero dissipation for flowing electric current.  The magnetic field does penetrate into a bulk type I superconductor to the London Penetration depth, and to the bulk of a type II superconductor in the form of vortexes. It happens that, an electric field exists in a superconductor as well.

An electric field inside a bulk superconductor would result from a charge accumulation and lead to a surface potential. In this talk, we will present measurements of surface potential in LSCO single crystals, and discuss its possible origin.
