Abstract: | Different segments of genomes have different evolutionary history, so that they can be viewed as a one-dimensional mosaic of different pieces. In this talk I will show models for the evolution of bacterial genomes where the mosaicity is introduced by horizontal gene transfer events. In higher organisms the mosaicity is introduced by recombination of genes in the process of sexual reproduction. Using the same mathematical approach I will show how to model this effect and get insight into the demographic history of a species using a single unphased genome. |
