Abstract:Professor Jonathan L. Rosner is a leading high-energy theorist whose contributions include proposing quark-hadron duality, identifying signatures of charm before its discovery, studying experimentally and interpreting theoretically the spectra of particles containing heavy quarks, and investigating CP violation in B meson decays. In his lectures, he will highlight successes in describing the observed particle spectrum, the fundamental interactions and their symmetries, and the violation of some of these symmetries. Remaining puzzles, including electroweak symmetry breaking, the pattern of masses and couplings of quarks and leptons, and the makeup of ``dark matter'', will also be discussed.
