Abstract: | Systems of repulsively interacting ions confined to two dimensions are known to undergo a structural transition into a buckled phase as the confinement is reduced. In this talk, I will discuss the effect of dislocations in these systems. In particular, I will show that each dislocation in this system binds a fractional vortex in the buckled order parameter. I will present the phase diagram of this system. The interaction between topological defects and dislocations may be relevant to other studies of the interplay between magnetic ordering and crystalization in antiferromagnets.
