Abstract: | In this talk I will review the main astrophysical results obtained during the first LIGO observing run for searches of gravitational waves from compact-object binaries composed of black holes and/or neutron stars, pulsars, supernovae, and for the stochastic gravitational-wave background of astrophysical and cosmological origin. I will also discuss the discovery potential of gravtitational-wave experiments in the short and long term, as Advanced LIGO and Virgo reach design sensitivity in a few years, and new facilities are built on the ground and in space in the next 10-15 years. |
