Abstract: | The discovery of hundreds of planets outside the solar-system opens an opportunity to learn about planets as a class. In order to gain a better understanding of the formation mechanism and interior structure of extrasolar planets, we must apply and further develop our knowledge of the solar-system planets. I will briefly describe how planetary interiors are modeled, and will present interior models of the four outer planets, i.e., Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The main uncertainties in planetary composition and interior structure will be summarized. New results, the connection to extrasolar planets and planet formation, open questions, and future investigations will be presented. |
