Abstract: | Holography has proved to be a useful tool to study strongly coupled plasmas, similar to the quark gluon plasma created in heavy ion collision experiments. Moreover, recently a new approach has shown that it could be used to study the initial stage of these collisions as well. In this regard, it remains to be seen how close the holographic studies will actually be to the experimental observations, since holographic setups do not describe QCD directly. This talk will consist of a review on how a collision of gravitational shockwaves in an AdS spacetime can model a heavy ion collision, together with a sketch of the numerical techniques involved in the calculation. Finally, I will also comment on the introduction of transverse inhomogeneities that may give a more accurate approach to real world collisions. |
