Abstract: | Quantum information theory has developed during the last years several theoretical tools and protocols to describe quantum many body systems and to do useful things with them. In this series of talks Professor Cirac will concentrate on tensor network ideas and its applications to condensed matter and atomic physics problems. He will also explain how dissipation may even help to design quantum devices. Professor Cirac is a leader in the fields of Theoretical Quantum Optics, Quantum Information and Degenerate Quantum Gases. For his work he was awarded several prizes including: the Benjamin Franklin Medal, the Carl Zeiss-Research Award and the International Quantum Communication Award. |
