Astrophysics and Cosmology Student conference 22/08/23

The Physics Department at the Technion hosted an Astrophysics and Cosmology Student conference (AsCoS III) on the 22nd of August.

The conference was organized by Mor Rozner and Dr. Yonadav Barry Ginat, and around 40 graduate students (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) from 7 universities participated, as well as three faculty members. The conference fostered fruitful discussions, interactions, and collaborations among the students; in the conference they got to know each other and met students with similar research interests from different universities.

The conference began with greetings by the dean of the Technion Physics Department, Prof. Adi Nusser, followed by the scientific part. The students’ talks were fascinating and covered a diverse range of topics, from observations of supernovae to primordial magnetic fields. At lunchtime we had a poster competition, where the participants presented their research, adjudicated by the participating faculty members Dr. Sivan Ginzburg, Dr. Shmuel Bialy and Prof. Hagai Perets. The winners of the (tough) competition are: Tatyana Shevchuk from Ben-Gurion University in first place, Noy Shitrit from Tel-Aviv University took second place, and Imri Dickstein from Bar-Ilan received an honorable mention. The conference ended after all the talks concluded and after handing out the prizes, with discussions continuing through dinner.

Thanks to all participants and congratulations to the prize-winners! Great job Mor and Barry who initiated and organized the conference!

We are confident that the success of the astrophysics and cosmology student conference is a promising beginning to a tradition of student conferences in all research fields in the department.
