The Physics Department welcomes Prof. Eric Akkermans as the incoming Dean of the Department, effective January 1, 2026. He succeeds Prof. Adi Nusser, who led the Department with distinction over the past four years—a period marked by significant national and academic challenges. We extend our sincere thanks to Prof. Nusser for his substantial contributions, his steadfast commitment to excellence in research and teaching, and his dedicated leadership.
We warmly congratulate Prof. Akkermans and wish him great success and fulfillment in his new role. We look forward to his continued strengthening of academic excellence, the advancement of innovative research, and the further deepening of the Department’s contribution to the scientific community and to society. Prof. Akkermans previously served as Vice Dean for Graduate Studies in Physics from 2016 to 2021, and has also served for many years on the Technion’s Tenure Committee and Preparatory Committee.
