Mathematical Physics

Overview

Mathematical physics at the Technion focuses on the structural understanding of quantum field theory, string theory, and gravity. This research interfaces with high energy physics through string gauge correspondences, holography, and generalized notions of symmetry. It also intersects condensed matter physics via the study of hydrodynamics, entanglement and non-equilibrium dynamics. The unifying theme, in this field, is the interplay between rigorous mathematical structures and physically motivated models, revealing a plethora of physical phenomena such as dualities and emergence.
