Course “Report On Research Activity” 114227: Join us to learn about current research in physics

15 March 2022

Between exams, moadei bet, homework submissions etc, it is easy to forget why you wanted to study physics. The “Report On Research Activity” (“Doh Segel”) course this semester (114227) should remind you of the reasons.

Each week, one of our faculty members will give us a taste of the problems at the forefront of current research. You will probably discover that physics research is quite different from the "textbook" picture you see in lectures. There is much that we still don't understand. This semester promises to be a fascinating set of lectures, covering topics in condensed matter, atomic physics, high energy physics, biophysics, cosmology and astrophysics.

The course is intended for 3rd year students. Lectures will be between 10:30 to 12:30 on Tuesdays, and the aim is to leave a lot of time for questions and discussion. In terms of requirements, this is a very light course: attendance is mandatory, and you will need to hand in a report summarizing one of the lectures. In terms of what you'll gain from the course, I'm sure you'll gain a lot.
