Israel Physical Society Meeting 2025

27 July 2025

We were delighted to host the 70th annual conference of the Israel Physical Society (IPS) on July 15th at the Technion.

The conference opened with the Society’s awards, among which were the following researchers from our department: Prof. Kinneret Keren, Dr. Anna Frishman and Dr. Hila Glantz.

- Prof. Kinneret Keren, elected Fellow of the Israel Physical Society

“For her contributions to the biophysical measurements and understanding of flow in actin networks, in systems ranging from the single cell to the whole organism.”

- Dr. Anna Frishman, awarded the Jacob Bekenstein Prize in Theoretical Physics  for outstanding academic faculty member.

“In recognition of her work on systems far from equilibrium, particularly the transition to turbulence and turbulent self-organized flows. “

- Dr. Hila Glantz, awarded the Amos De-Shalit Prize for students with an outstanding thesis

“For pioneering computational and analytical studies of stellar evolution, planetary dynamics, and transient phenomena, summarized in an excellent thesis.”

During the conference, students and researchers from all over the country gave lectures in a wide variety of fields and presented their research in a busy and fascinating poster session.
We concluded the day with a toast and the announcement of the winners of the poster competition, among them several students from our faculty –

- First place: Ethan Berreby and Avner Okun, “Charging Up Magnetized Spinning Black Holes”.

- Third place: Amit Kam, “Total Angular Momentum as a Pathway to Entangle Surface-Plasmon Polaritons.
Iris Pasvinter, “Hydra Morphogenesis - But Make it 3D!”.

Congratulations to the winners, it is a great honor for us to congratulate you, well done!

We thank the Technion Physics Team, especially Adi Levy and Ayala Hodara for their assistance and technical support, and faculty members Amos Yarom, Ilya Svetlizky and Michael Krueger for organizing an extraordinary conference!
