Technion Physics Research Week 11-15.09.2022

22 September 2022

The Technion Physics department was happy to host 12 outstanding undergraduate physics students

from universities all over the country during the annual physics research week that gave them a glimpse into the research conducted in our department.
The research week was interwoven with research talks, visits to laboratories and work on research projects, as well as meeting our graduate students, researchers and faculty members during coffee breaks, meals, and evening meetings. The activity included full accommodation and a participation grant. The goal of this week was to introduce the participants to our department as potential researchers, and not just as students.

List of mini-projects:
Observational Astrophysics mentored by Julia Salh (Ehud Behar) - Gamma-Ray Burst Detectors.
Astrophysics mentored by (Noam Soker) – 1D Stellar evolution simulations.
Quantum Matter Research mentored by Anna Eyal - Thermometry - How do we know the temperature of objects?
Solid State Physics mentored by Roni Gofman (Amit Kanigel) – Temperature measurements of Fermi-Dirak distribution of gold.
AMO lab mentored by Anastasiya Vainbaum (Yoav Sagi) – correcting optical aberrations with SLM.
Quantum Computing mentored by Asaf Diringer (Shay Hacohen-Gourgy) - Quantum computing and bosonic code.
Cosmology mentored by Adi Nusser - Understanding Gargantua and the Event Horizon Telescope image: light paths in the shadows of black holes.

We thank everyone who took part in the program and contributed to its success; the lecturers, the staff members, and the graduate students who instructed the participants in their projects.

We wish all the students great success in their studies and look forward to see them as graduate students in our faculty.
