The research of The Yakov Krasik Plasma Group was picked as "Editor’s Highlighted Article"
Congratulations to Yakov Krasik’s research group; John G. Leopold, Yuri P. Bliokh, O. Belozerov, E. Magid; on their recent article entitled “A Novel A10 Relativistic Diffraction Output High-Power Magnetron Operating at 9.8 GHz” picked as “Editor’s highlighted article” in “IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science” Vol. 53, No. 11, NOVEMBER (2025).
Relativistic magnetrons are most powerful compact high-power microwave pulse generators which can exceed ~1 GW in ~100 ns.
Yakov Krasik’s Plasma research group showed for the first time a magnetron design with a special diffraction output and upstream and downstream electron reflectors. With this design the magnetron achieved microwave peak power exceeding the input power. This occurs due to a very complex but special nonlinear electron dynamics in which charge rotates in the magnetron interaction region in a robust mode while it also oscillates in the longitudinal potential well between reflectors. This device was studied theoretically, by simulations and was confirmed experimentally.
