| Abstract: | On March 11th, 1999, Yosi Avron and Ruedi Seiler submitted the question of the “quantization of the Hall conductance” on Michael Aizenman’s list of important open problems in mathematical physics. I will discuss the problem and its solution, focusing on new tools and ideas that were developed in the process.
