Abstract:I will present a hybrid quantum system that we developed by bridging two fields of physics:
semiconductors and atomic physics [1]. Our system consists of a single artificial atom
(semiconductor part) and natural atoms (atomic part), and combines the key advantages of both
constituents. Using this system we have developed a universal source of indistinguishable single-photons, by frequency-locking an artificial atom to natural atoms [2]. Further, we have
demonstrated non-classical light storage, where single photons are generated form an artificial atom
and then stored in a vapor of natural atoms. I will also present crystal-phase quantum dots that we
discovered in nanowires. They are now a novel degree of freedom in device design at the nanoscale,
with exceptional crystallographic and optical properties.
