Abstract:Quantum dot (QD) – microcavity systems are fascinating objects for the study and exploitation of
cavity quantum electrodynamics (cQED) effects in solid state. In particular, they allow for the
observation of light-matter interaction effects in the quantum limit where the quantum nature of the
involved states plays a crucial role. In this context I will present recent progress in the field of cQED in
optically and electrically pumped high quality QD-micropillar cavities. With respect to fundamental
light-matter interaction I will present single QD photocurrent measurements in the cQED regime. In
light of possible applications highly efficient electrically driven single photon sources and their usage in
the field of quantum cryptography will be discussed. Finally, I will address recent results on on-chip
quantum optics using electrically pumped whispering gallery mode QD-microlasers.
