The Many Faces of Accretion

TYPEDistinguished Lecture Series
Speaker:Ramesh Narayan

Dates:21.04 - 24.04.2013
Time:All Day
Location:Physics Department Technion
Abstract:
Accretion disks are the power source behind many astrophysical systems, from protostars to compact stellar remnants to supermassive black holes. Sometimes these systems produce powerful ejections of magnetized gas, called jets. Understanding the physics behind the accretion-jet phenomenon is a major field of research and work is being done on many fronts: fundamental theory, computer simulations, ground- and space-based observations. This series of talks will describe some recent progress. Professor Narayan is Fellow of the Royal Society, London.
